HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A child was flown to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in the 15400 block of Gettysburg Drive in northwest Harris County.
The incident occurred on January 19 when deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office District 5 responded to an auto-pedestrian crash involving a juvenile driver. Preliminary investigation indicates the juvenile was operating a Chevrolet Equinox traveling northbound when the crash occurred.
At the same time, the child was rollerblading southbound on a sidewalk in the grass median dividing the roadway. As the driver entered the U-turn lane to turn onto the southbound side of Gettysburg Drive, the child also entered the U-turn lane and was struck by the front of the Chevrolet.
The child was pushed and dragged under the vehicle. The vehicle immediately stopped, and the child remained underneath until emergency crews arrived. The victim was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in downtown Houston and was reported to be conscious, alert and breathing both at the scene and during transport.
The juvenile driver remained on scene, cooperated fully with investigators, and showed no signs of intoxication. Deputies confirmed the driver had a clean record and a valid license.
Investigators noted that although the U-turn section of the roadway is lit, it is not well illuminated.
This is a developing story and more information will follow if it becomes available.
