HOUSTON, TX – A man in his late 30s was fatally shot just after midnight at a residence in the 3300 block of Anita Street in Houston’s Third Ward, according to Houston police.
The victim, who lived at the home with an older woman who referred to him as her godson, was in the living room when the suspect entered through the front door and opened fire with a pistol. The suspect, identified as the woman’s biological son in his late 20s, allegedly fired around four times, striking the victim twice.
The victim was transported to a hospital where he later died.
Police said the suspect fled the scene on foot but has since been located and is now in custody.
According to investigators, both men lived at the residence with the woman, who is described as the mother figure to both. Although the men were not blood-related, they considered each other brothers. Family members told police that the suspect had been released from prison approximately four years ago after serving an eight-year sentence and had been experiencing ongoing mental health issues.
Police are continuing their search for the suspect. If you have any information, you are urged to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
