HOUSTON, TX – Spencer Germany, a father of five, was fatally shot after stepping in to stop an assault involving the suspect and the suspect’s elderly mother. The shooting occurred at a home on Anita Street in Houston’s Third Ward.
According to the family, Spencer was visiting a friend when he saw Rogers McFarland strangling his own mother. Spencer intervened and pulled McFarland off. McFarland then left the home for a couple of hours before returning and shooting Spencer Germany. He fled the scene on foot.
According to a press release from Houston Police, officers responded to the shooting at 3343 Anita Street around 12:10 a.m. on January 29. They found a male victim inside the home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department transported the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Witnesses told police that McFarland entered the home, shot the victim, and fled on foot. Officers patrolling the area located and detained McFarland without incident. After further investigation, detectives consulted with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, and McFarland was charged with murder in the 176th Criminal District Court.
He remains in the Harris County Jail with a $750,000 bond.
