HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A shelter-in-place order has been lifted after a tree fell onto a crude oil pipeline during storms near the 16700 block of Golf Club in the Newport area of Crosby.
According to Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, the tree struck an Energy Transfer pipeline valve, causing a release of crude oil. Approximately 150 gallons spilled before the valve was shut off.
The crude oil did not reach residents or nearby bodies of water and extended about 10 feet from the plant fence line. First responders placed containment booms around the site to prevent the spill from spreading.
Residents on one street were briefly placed under a shelter-in-place order as a precaution. Hazmat teams later determined the air was safe to breathe, and the order was lifted.
No injuries were reported and no one sought medical attention in connection with the incident. Crosby Fire Department, the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, and Hazmat crews responded to the scene.
