K-9 officer injured after patrol unit flips during crash in downtown Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A K-9 officer was injured after a patrol vehicle flipped during a crash while responding to assist units involved in a pursuit in Houston.

The crash occurred around 12 a.m. at the intersection of Smith Street and Pease Street in downtown Houston.

According to police, the K-9 officer was en route to assist units after a pursuit came to an end on Allen Parkway near Dunlavy, where the suspect fled on foot. The officer was traveling southbound on Smith Street while another vehicle was traveling westbound on Pease Street when the two collided.

The impact caused the patrol unit to flip and roll nearly an entire block.

The officer was able to gather his bearings, call out his location, and check on the other vehicle involved. He was transported to a nearby hospital and is believed to be in stable condition. The K-9 was also transported for medical evaluation as a precaution.

Police stated emergency equipment was activated at the time of the crash.

Two occupants in the civilian vehicle were also transported to local hospitals. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

A woman at the scene was detained for unknown reasons. No further information has been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
