Two people killed after fleeing vehicle crashes and catches fire in northwest Harris County

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Two people were killed after a vehicle fleeing from a deputy crashed and caught fire in northwest Harris County.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Telge Road and Spring Cypress Road.

A vehicle was observed running a red light while traveling westbound on Spring Cypress. A deputy, who was stopped at a red light on the opposite side of the roadway, activated emergency lights and siren. As the deputy turned around, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed, turned off its lights, and was quickly lost from view.

The vehicle continued westbound, went down a ramp, and entered a wooded area. The deputy initially searched the area before turning back. Upon returning, the deputy observed a fire in the woods, believed to be the same vehicle.

Investigators said the vehicle was engulfed in flames. One person was ejected from the vehicle, and another remained inside. Both individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
