Man struck and killed after lying in roadway with blanket in Midtown

HOUSTON, TX – A man was struck by two vehicles and later died after lying in the roadway in Midtown.

The crash occurred just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Wheeler and Fannin. According to police, the pedestrian walked into the middle of Wheeler, lay down, and covered himself with a blanket.

Investigators said the man was then struck by two vehicles. The first vehicle, described as a black sedan, did not stop. The second vehicle, described as a black Tahoe, stopped briefly but did not exit the vehicle and left the scene.

A third driver, who did not strike the pedestrian, saw the man sit up after the second vehicle passed and stopped to call 911.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital by the Houston Fire Department, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police said they have a partial license plate for the second vehicle and are actively searching for it. No additional description is available at this time.
