HOUSTON, TX – A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross Westheimer Road to visit a nearby club last night.
Houston police said a group of women were crossing the roadway in the 12900 block of Westheimer around 11:51 p.m. They were not using a designated crosswalk when a vehicle struck one of them.
The woman, who appeared to be in her 20s, was transported to a hospital with critical injuries. She was later pronounced deceased.
Investigators believe they have identified the woman but are withholding her identity until her family is notified.
The driver remained at the scene, cooperated with investigators and was detained for questioning. Police said there were no signs of impairment at the time of the briefing, but an investigator was expected to determine whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
