HOUSTON, TX – A man was shot by police after allegedly brandishing a weapon during a foot pursuit in southeast Houston late Wednesday night.

The incident began around 11:20 p.m. when Houston Police Department officers attempted to stop a stolen Buick SUV near Reed Road and State Highway 288. The driver fled, and the pursuit ended when the suspect crashed near the intersection of Bacon Road and Tierwester Street.
According to the Houston Police Department, the adult male suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot. During the chase, the suspect reportedly pulled out a weapon and refused commands to drop it. A Southeast Patrol Division officer, fearing for his safety, discharged his weapon and struck the suspect.
Officers immediately rendered aid. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. A weapon was recovered at the scene.
The officer involved is a four-year veteran of the department. In accordance with HPD protocol, the Homicide Division’s Special Investigations Unit and Internal Affairs Division are conducting investigations. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office is also conducting an independent review.
Any available body-worn camera footage will be released within 30 days, per department policy.
