OMAHA, NE – The Omaha Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred during an early morning response to a reported break-in at a residence near North 152nd and Spencer Streets.

The incident began around 1:50 a.m. on October 16, 2025, when officers responded to a 911 call about someone attempting to enter a home. The department’s ABLE1 helicopter arrived before ground units and observed a man trying to break in through the back door. Officers arriving on scene met the homeowner outside while the suspect entered the home by firing multiple rounds through the back patio glass door using a handgun.
According to investigators, shortly after the suspect entered the home, he exited through the front door holding a handgun and fired in the direction of officers. Two officers returned fire, striking the suspect. A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office K9 team assisted in taking the man into custody.
The suspect, identified as 55-year-old Dean Weis, was treated on scene and transported to CHI Bergan Mercy Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials confirmed the incident is being investigated as domestic violence, with Weis reportedly known to the victim through a prior relationship.
No officers or other individuals were injured.
Police said body-worn camera footage and other surveillance captured parts of the incident. Weis remains hospitalized as the investigation continues. Charges are pending.
The involved officers are on paid leave per policy. The Nebraska State Patrol and Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office are assisting with the investigation, and the Douglas County Attorney’s Office will be briefed.
