Family of missing Fond du Lac Tribal member Peter Martin renews public appeal as hunting season begins

BROOKSTON, MN – The family of Peter Martin, a Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Tribal member who has been missing since March 8, 2024, is urging hunters and outdoor enthusiasts to remain vigilant as they enter the woods for the 2025 hunting season.

Martin was last seen in the Mahnomen neighborhood of the Fond du Lac Reservation in Brookston, Minnesota. The surrounding area remains a focal point in the search for any clues regarding his disappearance.

Hunters, hikers, and others who may encounter remote locations are asked to be alert and report anything unusual, including clothing, remains, or other suspicious items. The family emphasized the importance of not disturbing any potential evidence. Instead, individuals should mark the location using GPS and immediately contact law enforcement.

The family has partnered with local and federal agencies to offer a reward of up to $15,000 for credible information. The reward is structured as follows:

  • $1,000–$2,500 for tips leading to significant progress
  • $10,000 for information resulting in Peter’s location or an arrest
  • $15,000 for information that helps locate his remains or closes the case

The reward is funded by the Gaagige-Mikwendaagoziwag Reward Fund through the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR) Office and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services. All tips are confidential, and anonymity will be protected.
