HFD: Fire on Crosby Enterprise in Houston Ship Channel was caused by welding
On Friday, August 12, 2022, firefighters with the Houston Fire Department responded to a report of a fire on the Crosby Enterprise that was docked in the Houston Ship Channel for construction.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the ship after the fire started in the living quarters for crew members from workers that were welding. All crew personnel were accounted for and off the ship, according to HFD.
During the fire, HFD also stated a cooling station was set up using a City of Houston Metro bus for Houston Firefighters to cool off in as they worked in the blazing heat. Additional crews, including Hazmat also responded to help contain the fire and keep crews on a rotating basis in an attempt to cool them off.
