9-month-old infant dies in Hollister; police investigate cause, including possible SIDS

HOLLISTER, CA – The Hollister Police Department is investigating the death of a 9-month-old infant who was found unresponsive Thursday morning in a home in the city. At approximately 7:48 a.m. on September 25, 2025, Hollister Police officers responded to an emergency “echo call” reporting an unconscious infant with no pulse and no signs of breathing. Personnel from the Hollister Fire Department and American Medical Response (AMR) also responded. First responders arrived within minutes and found the infant not breathing and without a pulse. Life-saving measures were initiated immediately and continued during transport to a nearby hospital. Despite those efforts, the child was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Searcy County man sentenced to nine life terms for repeated rape of minor

MARSHALL, AR – Stephen Phillip Treat, 67, was sentenced to nine life sentences on September 24, 2025, after a Searcy County jury found him guilty of nine counts of rape and other related offenses. The charges stemmed from an investigation launched in July 2023 after a woman reported to the Searcy County Sheriff's Office that Treat had raped her repeatedly between 2012 and 2022, beginning when she was a minor. The Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division. Treat was arrested on July 18, 2023. Following a two-year legal process, he was convicted and sentenced to life in the Arkansas Department of Corrections on each of the nine rape counts.

DEL RIO, TX – A Mexican national appeared in federal court in Del Rio following his extradition to the United States to face charges tied to an international alien smuggling organization accused of bringing thousands of individuals across the U.S.-Mexico border for profit. Efrain Zuniga-Garcia, 37, was charged in a September 2023 indictment returned by a federal grand jury in the Western District of Texas. He faces one count of conspiracy to bring illegal aliens into the United States and three counts of bringing illegal aliens in for profit. NEWARK, CA – September 26, 2025 – Two men were killed following a single-vehicle crash on Thornton Avenue near Hickory Street in Newark on Thursday evening. According to the Newark Police Department, officers and Alameda County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene at approximately 5:28 p.m. on September 25. One occupant had been ejected from the vehicle. Despite life-saving efforts, both the 33-year-old male driver from Hayward and the 31-year-old male passenger from Union City were pronounced deceased at the scene. HOUSTON, TX – A suspect has been charged with capital murder in connection with a 2021 fatal shooting and vehicle theft outside a southwest Houston apartment complex. Shannon Washington, 46, was charged in the 232nd Criminal District Court on September 25. He is currently in custody with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) on an unrelated charge. According to Houston Police, officers responded to a report of a stabbing and found a 40-year-old male with stab wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics. SADDLE RIVER, NJ – Two separate coyote attacks were reported in the Chestnut Ridge Road area within a 12-hour span on September 25 and 26, 2025. According to Saddle River Police, the first incident occurred Thursday evening near Chestnut Ridge Road and Werimus Road. A resident was attacked while walking his dog and sustained injuries that required medical treatment. Cow in roadway struck by vehicle, injuring Dowagiac man

CASS COUNTY, MI – A 67-year-old man from Dowagiac was injured early Friday morning after his vehicle struck a cow in the roadway in Mason Township. According to Sheriff Clint Roach, the crash occurred around 3:31 a.m. on Sept. 26 in the 70400 block of Calvin Center Road. Deputies responded to the scene and found that Dale Killarney was traveling southbound when his vehicle collided with a cow. Killarney, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was unable to exit under his own power and was assisted out by deputies. He was transported by ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital in Indiana for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. SEPSA assisted deputies at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
