A shoplifter is dead after grabbing a deputy’s taser in NW Harris County

According to Sgt. Jason Brown during a press briefing, the incident started around 6:30 p.m., at the Dollar General located at 2004 W FM 1960 in Houston. Brown states the employees called the police after the man was caught shoplifting and pushing a manager. Deputies responded to the call and a Harris County Seargent, and a 15-year veteran with the department spotted him just south of the Dollar General. At that point, the Seargent tried to stop the suspect but he fled on foot and made it about 100 yards before the officer caught up to him. Once the officer. caught up to the suspect, a fight ensued. Bomb Squad called to Hobby Airport after a K-9 alerted TSA to a suspicious piece of luggage

Hobby Airport, in South Houston, was placed on lockdown after a TSA dog that was on a routine patrol alerted authorities to a piece of luggage according to Megan Howard, the Tactical Operations Division Commander for the Houston Police Department in a press statement. The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022. According to Commander Howard, TSA followed protocols and alerted the Houston Police Department which then sent out the bomb squad to investigate. Houston Airport was also notified and worked to block off the area where the piece of luggage was while redirecting passengers to another part of the airport in order to reroute passengers. Rocky Mountain Gun Owners (RMGO), a group of far-right gun owners decided to sue the town of Colorado and filed a complaint to block bans on assault weapons and to protect their right to carry firearms in public in federal court on Thursday, July 7, 2022. Colorado passed a law in 2021 after a deadly shooting at a supermarket in Boulder, CO, to give more power to local governments for gun regulation. The former Minneapolis cop who killed George Floyd has now received an additional 21-year sentence in federal court. This is in addition to charges of manslaughter and murder Chauvin was convicted last June and will be served separately. The plea agreement called for Chauvin to receive a sentence of 20 to 25 years for the killing of Floyd. Body found in a field by the University of Houston in 3rd Ward

 A man's body was found off an entrance to IH-45 in the 2000 block of Cullen on Wednesday afternoon, just across the freeway from the University of Houston, just east of Downtown Houston. Houston Police, during a press briefing, stated the man's body was found by a Houston Fire Department apparatus as it was returning to the station after a call. Firefighters stopped to check on the man and determined that he was already deceased. The firefighters reported their findings to the Houston Police Department at which point a homicide investigation began. The man, who has not been identified was found by the entrance ramp. In a class-action lawsuit filed in Illinois Federal court, African-American State Farm agents claim they are discriminated against because of "firm-wide policies and practices" which subject the agents to lower pay on a systemic basis as well as a high turnover rate. State Farm sought to have this case dismissed, but a federal judge in Illinois ruled in favor of the agents on July 1, 2022. A Toyota RAV 4 with Texas dealer plates took Houston Police on a chase through north Houston early Monday morning around 3 a.m. on July 4, 2022, before crashing into a ditch on Exeter St. at Skinner Rd. According to police radio traffic, the chase started when the suspects when police were called after several suspects were caught breaking into vehicles in the 1700 block of Wellington Street, which is between Aldine Westfield and the Hardy Toll road. The caller stated that there were three vehicles total, with a total of six suspects, all males in their 20s and 30s. According to Officer Mayfield with the Houston Police Department, first responders were dispatched to the drive-by shooting at 9:04 p.m. late Sunday, July 3, 2022. The shooting took place at the Conoco Phillips gas station located on the corner of Berry Rd. and Airline Dr. (4840 Airline Dr, Houston, TX 77022). Officer Mayfield explained that when first responders arrived, they found the male victim in a silver Chevy SUV, with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken by paramedics with the Houston Fire Department to a local hospital in Houston.
