Houston police responded to a shooting call around 1 a.m. in the 6800 block of Winton Street. Officers found an adult woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her lower leg. HOUSTON - A 5-year-old child died after being found unresponsive in the swimming pool at the Cortland Wortham Apartments on the Fourth of July, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to a life-in-danger call at the apartment complex in the 10225 block of Wortham Boulevard, where EMS personnel were already administering CPR to the child. The child was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Detectives said the child's mother and aunt were at the hospital with him after the incident. HOUSTON — A man was detained after crashing into a Houston Police Department patrol vehicle at the intersection of Clay Road and Gessner in northwest Houston. According to the Houston Police Department, the patrol unit was traveling westbound on Clay Road when it collided with a civilian vehicle traveling northbound on Gessner. Investigators are working to determine which driver had the right of way. Preliminary information indicates the HPD officer may have had a green light, while the civilian vehicle may have entered the intersection against a red light while traveling at a high rate of speed. HOUSTON, Texas — A police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended in a crash on the southbound State Highway 6 overpass over Westpark around 4 a.m., leaving one person dead and two others detained. HOUSTON - June 30, 2026 - Houston police are investigating a shooting that followed an attempted gun sale robbery Tuesday evening at the Luxury Inn & Suites in southeast Houston. Officers responded to a shooting call around 7:30 p.m. at the Luxury Inn & Suites, 8113 Easthaven. When officers arrived, they found an adult male in his 40s suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. According to Houston police, the suspect, described as a male in his late 30s or 40s, came to the hotel to buy a pistol while his girlfriend waited in a vehicle parked across the street. HOUSTON - A construction worker was killed while crews were completing a lane closure on the Gulf Freeway near Beltway 8, according to the Houston Police Department. Police said another construction worker was operating a vehicle equipped with a Scorpion, an impact-attenuation device designed to absorb crashes and protect roadside workers, when the vehicle accidentally backed into the victim on the freeway. According to investigators, the driver told officers he was being as cautious as possible while assisting with the lane closure when the collision occurred.
