Man charged after an infant was killed in crash on the north freeway

Deadrian Aundre Baker, aged 33, has been arrested and charged with murder and two counts of intoxication assault in connection with a fatal crash that occurred at 8400 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) on Sunday, March 12 at around 10:35 p.m. The victim’s identity, a female juvenile aged 1, is yet to be verified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division, Baker was driving a black Honda Crosstour southbound on the freeway when he collided with the left concrete barrier, causing the vehicle to overturn. There were three adults and four children in the car at the time of the accident. Two of the children, a 1-year-old girl, and a 3-year-old boy, were ejected from the car. Paramedics took them to nearby hospitals, where the younger child was pronounced dead. The boy was in critical condition. Two other boys, aged 5 and 10, sustained minor injuries and were treated at a hospital. A male passenger, aged 29, was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

After Baker was detained, he was found to be intoxicated and subsequently charged in connection with the crash. The case is being handled in the 176th State District Court.

According to investigators at the time of the crash, none of the children were wearing seatbelts. A car seat was found in the trunk of the vehicle and was not being used.
