Houston, Dallas Elementary Schools Make Friendly Bet on Astros-Rangers ALCS Series

(HOUSTON, TX) Oct. 12, 2023 – Two Texas elementary schools, Harmony Science Academy-Cypress in northwest Houston and Harmony Science Academy-Grand Prairie in southwest Dallas, have placed a friendly wager on the outcome of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) between the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. This wager was made the morning after the Astros advanced to the ALCS, setting up a first-ever postseason clash with their I-45 rival, the Texas Rangers.

Should the Rangers win the series, students from Harmony Science Academy-Cypress will wear Rangers colors and record a video acknowledging their defeat, while wishing the Rangers good luck in the World Series. Conversely, if the Astros win, students from Harmony Science Academy-Grand Prairie will do the same, celebrating the reigning World Series champions, the Astros.

Staff from both schools have already engaged in friendly banter. “Congrats to the Rangers for making it to the ALCS for the first time since the Astros joined the American League,” said Cody Blair, assistant principal at HSA-Cypress. “But may I remind you, you don’t make it to seven consecutive LCS series without a little moxie.”

Both schools are part of Harmony Public Schools, a tuition-free public charter school network in Texas. Harmony operates 60 PreK-12 academies across the state, focusing on STEM skills, Character Education, project-based learning, and college readiness. Applications for the 2023-2024 school year are currently being accepted for both students and team members.
