LEAGUE CITY, TX – According to police, a fatal traffic accident involving a wrong-way driver occurred on IH-45 at FM-646, Southbound, at 3:21 a.m. on Jan. 6, 2024. The crash involved a Toyota sedan and a Volkswagen sedan.
The Toyota, engulfed in flames following the collision, had two occupants: a female driver and a male passenger. The male passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. The female driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The Volkswagen sedan had a single occupant who was also pronounced deceased at the scene.
All three individuals involved in the accident were adults. Preliminary reports indicate that the Toyota was driving the wrong way, heading northbound in the southbound lanes, which led to the collision.
Following the accident, the southbound main lanes of the freeway were shut down, with traffic diverted for the investigation by the accident reconstruction team.
