Suspect jumps in man’s truck, robs and kidnaps him at gunpoint, leads police on pursuit

HOUSTON, TX – A man was kidnapped at gunpoint during an ATM robbery early Sunday morning after a suspect hid in the back of his truck, leading to a police pursuit and crash at Telephone Road and Dixie Drive.

Around midnight, officers with the Houston Police Department’s Southeast Division responded to an aggravated robbery and kidnapping that began near the 8200 block of Broadway. The victim was withdrawing money from an ATM when the suspect allegedly jumped into the back of his truck unnoticed.

After the victim drove home, the suspect emerged, pointed a gun at him, and demanded his keys, money, and phone. When the victim hesitated, the suspect forced him into the vehicle at gunpoint and drove off with him inside.

The suspect released the victim about half a mile away and fled in the stolen truck. Officers located the vehicle shortly after and attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect led them on a brief pursuit.

The chase ended when the suspect, driving at high speed, entered oncoming traffic and crashed into another vehicle at Telephone and Dixie. He attempted to flee further but was only able to make it about a block south near La Paseo before the truck became inoperable.

The occupants of the other vehicle were transported by the Houston Fire Department in stable condition. The suspect was also transported to a local hospital. The victim was not injured and was taken home.

If you have any information, you are urged to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
