Toddler dies after being accidentally struck by brother’s truck in southeast Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A 2-year-old girl was fatally struck by a pickup truck driven by her adult brother at an apartment complex in southeast Houston.

The incident occurred around 9:54 p.m. on Saturday in the 7900 block of Leonora. According to police, the child ran into the parking lot roadway area while playing with a sibling as a family member was unloading groceries.

Her brother, who was reportedly unaware she was behind the truck, began backing up and struck her.

Family members immediately stopped the vehicle, rendered aid, and called 911. Houston Fire Department medics transported the child to Texas Children’s Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

According to Houston Police, the driver, described as a man in his early 20s, was evaluated by HPD’s DWI Task Force and showed no signs of intoxication.

The crash appears to be accidental, and no charges have been filed at this time.
