HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A major crash was reported around 10:57 p.m. at the intersection of the South Sam Houston Parkway West and the SH-288 feeder.
District 3 deputies arrived and found a collision involving a sedan and a commercial motor vehicle carrying an Amazon trailer. The male driver of the sedan was ejected. Witnesses told deputies he was not wearing a seat belt. Emergency medical services pronounced him deceased at the scene.
According to the investigation and dash camera footage, the truck carrying the Amazon trailer ran a red light. Deputies stated the truck had been traveling southbound in the number two lane, while the sedan was traveling westbound in the number one lane when the crash occurred. The truck driver initially claimed he had a yellow light, but video showed the light was red throughout. Investigators said the driver may have been visually affected by another nearby traffic signal displaying a green light.
The deceased driver is described as a Black male who appeared to be in his late twenties to early thirties. His identity has not yet been confirmed. There were no signs of intoxication, and no charges have been filed at this time.
