Two-alarm fire burns vacant strip center in Houston for second time this year

HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Fire Department responded around 9 p.m. to a vacant strip center that caught fire for the second time this year.

According to Houston Fire Department Deputy Chief James Pennington, crews arrived and quickly shifted to a defensive attack. A two-alarm was pulled by incident command for additional manpower but was called off shortly after.

Roughly 50 firefighters responded to the scene.

A primary search confirmed no one was inside. The fire was contained, and crews remained for several hours to overhaul the structure, check for hidden hotspots, and manage traffic in the area.

Arson investigators responded, and Houston police assisted with traffic control. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Pennington reminded residents to check smoke detectors and use heating equipment safely during colder weather, including avoiding extension cords with space heaters and having home systems inspected by certified technicians.
