Vehicle hits dead-end sign, goes airborne and catches fire after pursuit in north Harris County

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A vehicle caught fire after a pursuit ended in a crash in front of Francis Elementary School at 6525 Greens Road early Friday morning.

The incident began when a night shift patrol unit conducted a traffic stop on a silver minivan at JFK Boulevard and the Beltway. One adult male was detained at the initial stop location.

Another adult male passenger moved into the driver’s seat and fled the scene, leading deputies on a pursuit. At one point near the original stop, the vehicle slowed down and allowed additional passengers to exit before continuing.

The pursuit continued along Greens Road, where the vehicle struck a dead-end sign, went airborne, and caught fire.

The driver was detained at the crash site and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The total number of passengers involved is unknown at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
