HOUSTON, TX – A 42-year-old man was shot and killed during an attempted armed robbery at Riverside Park Tuesday night.
The incident occurred around 8:50 p.m. in the 2600 block of South Calumet. According to the Houston Police Department, the victim had met a female friend at the park and was sitting in her vehicle after initially parking his own nearby.
While the two were in the car, they were approached by two masked suspects, one armed with a pistol and the other with a rifle. The suspects ordered them out of the vehicle. As the victim and the woman began walking away, the suspects entered the car but were unable to leave because the female had the keys.
The suspects then chased the pair through the park and caught up to the male in a grassy area, where a struggle ensued. The man was later found deceased from a gunshot wound to the torso.
The woman escaped and ran to a nearby convenience store, calling 911 after reporting she heard a gunshot while fleeing.
Police believe the suspects fled on foot. The motive is believed to be an attempted armed robbery involving the female’s vehicle.
This is a developing story and more information will follow if it becomes available.
