Dr. Candice Matthews visits Dyersdale Village Apartments following resident complaints

HOUSTON, TEXAS — Dr. Candice Matthews visited the Dyersdale Village apartment complex at 9700 Mesa Road after residents requested assistance regarding reported living conditions.

Dr. Matthews began the visit with a press briefing outside the complex before conducting a walk-through of the property.

The health department was also conducting an inspection before Dr. Matthews arrival.

During the walk-through, Dr. Matthews and residents pointed out conditions residents said included rodent activity, roaches, sewage odors, standing wastewater, deteriorating structures, and unresolved maintenance issues. Multiple residents spoke on camera and described long-term problems, including pest control concerns, plumbing issues, accessibility challenges for disabled residents, and safety conditions inside individual units.

Dr. Matthews entered the leasing office to seek responses from property management. Management declined to comment on camera and requested the group leave the office area.

Dr. Matthews stated she submitted intake information based on resident accounts and said regulatory agencies overseeing multifamily housing had been notified. She said the property is a Section 8 complex that receives federal funding.

The visit concluded with additional resident interviews inside and outside apartment units. Residents described ongoing sanitation, maintenance, and billing concerns. Dr. Matthews said follow-up actions with regulatory agencies are planned.
