Allegations surface involving Beaumont activist after sexual assault charge and dismissed civil lawsuit

BEAUMONT, TEXAS – Court records indicate that a Beaumont-area activist has been charged with sexual assault, a case cited by Dr. Candice Matthews as part of broader concerns she has raised regarding his conduct and credibility. The status and outcome of the sexual assault case were not detailed in her statement.

Dr. Candice Matthews stated she was later named as a defendant in a civil lawsuit filed by the same activist she previously investigated and publicly criticized, identified as Ricky Jason. Dr. Matthews said the court proceedings were ultimately dismissed in her favor.

According to Dr. Matthews, Jason publicly claimed to be a protégé of the late Dick Gregory. Dr. Matthews stated that members of Gregory’s family issued a statement indicating Gregory never had an association or relationship with Jason.

Dr. Matthews further alleged that Jason provided a false address to Beaumont City Council and that the address listed was a vacant lot. She said Beaumont-area constituents reviewed the location and determined it was not a residence, and alleged the information was used to qualify Jason to speak at a City Council meeting.

Dr. Matthews stated the matter gained attention online after being raised publicly, including widely shared social media content. She said she later held a press conference and protest on public property related to the dispute.

According to Dr. Matthews, video footage shows an interaction between her and Jason during the protest. She stated she remained on public property and denied making threats toward Jason, adding that video evidence contradicts those claims.

A second individual who said they were present during the protest stated that Dr. Matthews did not threaten Jason and did not make statements about harming him or his property.

This is what Jason originally stated following the protest:
