Man armed with rifle shot and killed by officers outside Comfort Inn & Suites in southwest Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A man was shot and killed by officers during an officer-involved shooting outside a hotel in southwest Houston.

Police responded shortly after 9 p.m. to a shooting in progress at the Comfort Inn & Suites located at 11050 Southwest Freeway. Officers arrived within minutes and observed a male suspect walking from the south side of the building holding a rifle.

According to police, officers gave repeated verbal commands for the suspect to drop the weapon. The suspect refused, and officers discharged their firearms. The suspect, described as a Hispanic male in his 60s, was struck and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police said a female complainant was later found inside one of the hotel rooms with a minor injury. Investigators believe she may have suffered a graze wound from gunfire. She was treated by HFD.

No officers were injured. All officers involved were checked and cleared.

The department’s Homicide Division, Internal Affairs Division, and Special Investigations Unit are conducting investigations, along with a review by the District Attorney’s Office. Police said body camera footage will be released within 30 days, in accordance with department policy.

The investigation remains ongoing.
