HOUSTON, TX – An adult male was killed in a suspected hit-and-run crash along Scott Street near Anita Street.
Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division investigators responded to the 3000 block of Scott, where all northbound lanes were shut down as officers investigated an auto-pedestrian fatality.
According to police, investigators believe one or possibly multiple vehicles initially struck the man, leaving him in a moving lane of traffic next to the Metro rail line. A female driver then ran over him after he was already on the ground.
Police said the female driver remained at the scene and has cooperated with investigators. At this time, she is not considered a suspect, and officers said the evidence supports her account.
The case is being referred to the department’s hit-and-run unit. Investigators plan to review surveillance video from nearby businesses and are also working to obtain potential video from Metro. A Metro rail operator reportedly called in the incident after observing police activity in the area.
The victim has been identified only as an adult Black male. His age has not been released.
Police said the man was not near a sidewalk or crosswalk at the time of the crash. There is no marked crosswalk near Anita Street in that area of Scott.
The investigation remains ongoing.
