HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Dr. Candice Matthews held a press briefing outside the gated Haverstock Hills Apartments on Aldine Bender in north Harris County after recent complaints were made by residents, stating she had been trespassed from the property along with Grizzy’s Hood News.
Dr. Matthews said she went to the complex in response to new concerns raised by tenants but was informed she could not enter the property. She conducted the briefing from outside the gates and said residents continue to contact her with information.
During the briefing, Dr. Matthews cited complaints including reports of rats, roaches, mold and unsanitary conditions. She also alleged that maintenance workers have entered apartments without notice, which she said has raised safety concerns among tenants.
Dr. Matthews referenced the prior death of an elderly woman at the complex, alleging the tenant had repeatedly notified management that her air conditioning was not working before she died during extreme heat. She said the family previously filed a lawsuit that was later dropped.
She encouraged residents to submit current photos and videos documenting current conditions inside their units and said she plans to organize town hall meetings to address concerns and provide assistance.
Dr. Matthews said she intends to continue assisting residents from outside the property and working with Harris County regarding conditions at the complex.
