TEXAS – A woman alleged during an interview with Dr. Candice Matthews that she was taken to Mexico and alleged she was held there for approximately five months after meeting Jenifer Knighton online.
According to the woman, she met Knighton during a period of crisis after Knighton presented herself as “an advocate and a journalist on social justice issues.” The woman stated Knighton later arrived at her apartment in Los Angeles in June 2023 and pressured her into traveling to Tijuana for a dentist appointment.
The woman alleged that during the drive, Knighton gave her a white and blue capsule described as “Mexican Adderall or Xanax,” which she mixed with her own prescription medication before becoming incoherent. She stated she remembered very little from the drive before later finding herself at a location in Mexico.
According to the interview, the woman described the location as a dilapidated house with no running water, bars on the doors and windows, guards present, limited food, and alleged physical abuse occurring inside the facility. She alleged food was withheld as punishment and control.
The woman stated her family became concerned when she disappeared and was preparing to file a missing persons report. According to the interview, Knighton allegedly contacted the woman’s family claiming to be a friend and substance abuse counselor, stating the woman had voluntarily agreed to mental health and drug treatment in Mexico and would not be allowed phone contact.
The woman further alleged her family was told money was required for her to remain at the facility and that without payment she would be released onto the streets of Mexico. She stated her family believed they were being extorted.
During the interview, the woman also alleged she later learned a 16-year-old girl being held at the same location was allegedly Jazmin Perez, who she claimed was Knighton’s daughter.
According to a statement released alongside the interview, Dr. Matthews referred the alleged victim to the FBI for further review due to the nature of the allegations. The statement also said the individual has since been interviewed by the FBI regarding the matter.
The allegations discussed in the interview are claims made by the interviewee and have not been proven in court. The article is presented for public awareness regarding statements and allegations discussed during the interview process.
