HOUSTON, TX — A man was fatally shot following an altercation near the entrance gate of Walnut Terrace Apartments in west Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded shortly after 7 p.m. to the complex in the 2800 block of Walnut Bend. Officers and Houston Fire Department personnel found a man who had been shot at least once. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officers obtained a description of the suspected shooter and found a man matching that description inside the complex. The man surrendered to officers and claimed he shot the victim in self-defense.

More than one gunshot was reportedly fired, but no other injuries were reported.

HPD homicide investigators are interviewing the man and witnesses and reviewing possible surveillance video. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office will determine how the case will procee
