Dr. Matthews holds press briefing after protective order filed against her is dismissed

HOUSTON, Texas – Dr. Candice Matthews held a press briefing after a protective order filed against her by Eric Sanchez was dismissed following a hearing in Harris County

Dr. Matthews said Judge Harrington followed the law and properly considered the evidence presented during the hearing. Dr. Matthews alleged the applicant used another social media account to monitor her page after being blocked in December.

Her attorney said the ruling was based on the Texas Penal Code and Family Code. The judge also instructed the parties to stay away from each other’s social media pages.

Dr. Matthews and her attorney accused some applicants of attempting to weaponize Harris County’s protective order courts. They said those resources should be available to people facing domestic violence and other immediate safety concerns.

They also said Dr. Matthews should be spending her time addressing conditions at apartment complexes, including allegations of mold, leaks, rats and roaches.

Dr. Matthews concluded by criticizing Judge Curvey and warning others against filing protective order cases without sufficient evidence.
