HOUSTON, TX – August 18, 2023 – A fire erupted in a scrap yard at Tex-Mex Auto & Truck Parts on 249 @ Antoine, causing heavy smoke to fill the area. The fire broke out at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Friday and lasted until about 12:30 a.m. Responding fire crews battled the blaze as thick clouds of smoke billowed from the scene. Northwest V.F.D handled the incident.

HOUSTON, TX - August 19, 2023 - A fire broke out in a commercial building located at 2607 Grant St. 77006, leading to an estimated $50,000 in damages. The incident occurred on August 19, 2023, at 4:21 a.m., and there were no reported injuries. Firefighters arrived on the scene within five minutes to find fire emanating from the two-story commercial building. They forced entry and made an offensive attack on the fire while conducting a primary search. The structure, which appeared to be under renovation, was ventilated by the firefighters, who also pulled the ceiling to contain and fully extinguish the fire. HARRIS COUNTY, TX – August 19, 2023 – Two drivers struck and fatally wounded a woman attempting to cross the southbound North Freeway service road on foot Saturday night, authorities said. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the 15800 block of the North Freeway southbound feeder near where it intersects with Richey Road. According to Sgt. Steven Jumbo with the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the woman was not crossing at a marked crosswalk when she was initially struck by a silver SUV. The driver of the SUV fled the scene. Moments later, another car traveling south hit the woman. The second driver initially thought they had hit debris and left the scene but later returned and spoke with police investigators. Neighbors discovered her body and she was later pronounced dead at the scene. Houston police were called to the location around 8 p.m. due to a possible homicide. The woman's neighbors, who had known her for several years, noticed her door was half open and decided to investigate. The collision between two vehicles resulted in one driver dead and an infant fighting for its life. According to police, the force of the crash was so severe that the driver of one of the vehicles was forcefully ejected from his car. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, the driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The infant, who is related to the deceased driver, was left in critical condition. The child was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital and was later pronounced deceased.  Details of the other vehicle involved and whether any other passengers were injured have not been released at this time.
