Video: Houston police hit pedestrian along East Freeway

HOUSTON, Texas, Aug. 12, 2023 - A Houston Police Department vehicle struck a 67-year-old Hispanic male on I-10 East just before the 59 ramp at 12:45 a.m. on Aug. 12, according to authorities. The incident occurred after officers entered I-10 East following the drop-off of a prisoner at the Joint Processing Center (JPC). A van in front of the police vehicle suddenly hit its brakes, causing the officer to swerve to avoid a collision. In doing so, the officer ended up hitting the pedestrian, who may have been under the influence of alcohol. The victim was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. No officers were injured in the incident. It is not clear why the man decided to cross the freeway since there was a dedicated pedestrian bridge just feet away.

HOUSTON, Texas, Aug. 11, 2023 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 57-year-old man, identified as Troy Harris, at 9420 Cullen Boulevard, which occurred about 11:05 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11. HPD Homicide Division detectives reported that HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call in a parking lot of a shopping center at the specified address. Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Harris suffering from a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene. Witnesses stated that Mr. Harris had witnessed an unidentified male suspect assaulting a man in a wheelchair. The bikers were headed eastbound on Westheimer before they turned south on Chimney Rock. One rider lost control and fell off his 4-wheeler, sliding on the ground next to his vehicle. The incident occurred at the 49-second mark in a video captured by a bystander. The rider quickly got up and drove off without apparent injury. Police later made an arrest at 3100 Chimney Rock, resulting in the impoundment of a bike. The individual was charged with Obstructing a Highway (Case No. 247119201010).
