STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA – The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting at a Halloween party in Empire that left one man dead and two others injured. On Nov. 1, 2025, at about 12:27 a.m., deputies responded to the 100 block of A Street in Empire for a report of gunfire at a Halloween party. While enroute, dispatch advised there were multiple gunshot victims. Upon arrival, deputies located two adult male victims and immediately began life-saving measures. Two victims were transported by ambulance to a local hospital. One victim, identified as 32-year-old Juan Loaiza of Ceres, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Kentucky man pleads guilty to destroying religious statue at Catholic church

PADUCAH, KY – A Hopkinsville man has pleaded guilty to damaging religious property after using an axe to destroy a statue of Mary holding baby Jesus at a local Catholic church, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky. Court documents state that on January 28 and 29, 2025, 27-year-old Marley R. Taylor intentionally decapitated both statues because he believed people prayed to them as an act of worship. The marble statue had been hand-carved and imported from Italy. Taylor pleaded guilty to one count of damage to religious property. He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 10, 2026, and faces up to three years in prison and restitution of at least $35,935.
