Update: Woman charged in fatal dog attack that killed 86-year-old Maria Nunez

APPLING COUNTY, GA — The Appling County Sheriff's Office has arrested 53-year-old Misty Ann Branch of Baxley in connection with the death of 86-year-old Maria D. Nunez, who was killed in a fatal dog attack on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Authorities initially responded to a call at approximately 1200 hours on Popular Lane, where deputies and emergency personnel found Ms. Nunez deceased outside her residence with multiple injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary findings indicate that Nunez was violently attacked by two dogs while in her yard. The dogs believed to be responsible were located and secured by authorities. Her body was transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Pooler for autopsy. ULSTER COUNTY, NY – Two people were killed in a head-on crash early in the morning on Kings Highway near Sinsapaugh Lane, according to the Saugerties Police Department. At approximately 5:27 a.m., officers responded to the scene and located two heavily damaged vehicles in the northbound lane. A 2023 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 65-year-old man from Waterbury, Connecticut, was traveling southbound when it crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 2022 Ford F-150 operated by a 19-year-old male from Lake Katrine. According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, the victim reported that the 14-year-old began grabbing her during class.
