Houston unveils 25 new solid waste vehicles as part of citywide fleet upgrade

HOUSTON, TX – Mayor John Whitmire and the City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) announced the expansion of the city’s waste collection fleet with the deployment of 25 new vehicles. The additions include 16 recycling side loaders, one grappler, three rear loaders, and five tractor trailers. WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX Oct. 12, 2025 - According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and first responders were dispatched at approximately 9:00 a.m. to the 5800 block of Parma Lane, outside the city limits of Round Rock, for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located a female victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim, 43-year-old Tariro Ikpe, was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased despite lifesaving efforts. Detectives have determined the incident to be a domestic violence-related homicide. The victim’s husband, 65-year-old Ekong Ikpe, was taken into custody and has been charged with murder. GALVESTON COUNTY, TX – A man was killed by his own dogs in Bacliff following a fatal mauling that occurred on October 12, 2025, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.
