March 22, 2023 - A tragic incident unfolded at the Harris County Jail on Tuesday when a man was found dead in an apparent suicide. Fabian Cortez, 41, was discovered unconscious in a restroom at the Joint Processing Center at 2:32 p.m., having seemingly hanged himself with a drawstring from his clothing. Cortez had been brought to the facility earlier in the day after being arrested by the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office on felony charges, including continuous sexual assault of a child and child pornography. Upon discovering Cortez, detention officers promptly initiated life-saving measures, including CPR, before transferring him to the jail's clinic. Galena Park, TX - Tragedy struck a Galena Park residence on Saturday night when four individuals were found dead from gunshot wounds in an apparent murder-suicide.The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on February 18, 2023, at a residence located in the 2000 block of 2nd Street in Galena Park. According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, three of the victims were teenagers, with the oldest one being 19 years old and pregnant at the time of the shooting. The suspect, who is not related to any of the victims, had a relationship with the mother of the teenager. The mother was not at home at the time of the shooting. Constables with Harris County Precinct 4 arrested a man when they learned that he was wanted for arson in connection with an insurance fraud case in Harris County. Steven Smith Mugshot According to court documents, arson investigators with the Harris County Fire Marshall's office were called out to the scene of a vehicle fire in the 19600 block of Tegle Rd. in Tomball, TX on May 29, 2021 at about 5:40 a.m. During their investigation, investigators found that the fire started in the passenger compartment and determined that someone applied an open flame to ignitable materials that were stored inside. A woman was arrested after she was caught driving while intoxicated with a child in the 200 block of Blossom in Webster, TX. It appears this is her first offense, at least in Harris County. Her next court date is set for December 27, 2022, and a bond amount has not been set yet. This has been referred to a magistrate to decide. Her relationship to the child is not known at this time.
