HARRIS COUNTY, TX – One man is dead and his daughter is now being charged with intoxiciated manslaughter following a fatal accident on Hempstead Hwy last night.
According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez on X the crash involved a Mazda Miata driven by 51-year-old Shelley Buttram, with her 85-year-old father as the passenger.
The accident occurred when Buttram, allegedly making an unsafe left turn possibly to execute a U-turn or to enter a private driveway, crossed into the path of an oncoming BMW. The collision resulted in the BMW striking the Mazda, causing fatal injuries to Buttram’s father. He tragically died en route to the hospital.
Sheriff Gonzalez also noted that Buttram was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Consequently, she has been charged with and arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
