A woman has been arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter following a fatal car crash that resulted in the death of her father. She appeared in court late Saturday night.
Deputies responded to the scene of the crash in the 36000 block of Hempstead Road at around 11 p.m. on Friday. Shelley Buttram, 51, was identified as the driver of a Mazda Miata and was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. She has been charged with intoxication manslaughter, with her bond set at $50,000.
Buttram was making a U-turn or turning into a driveway on Hempstead Road when her vehicle was struck by a BMW. Her 85-year-old father, who was a passenger in the Mazda, sustained injuries in the crash and tragically passed away en route to the hospital. Following the incident, Buttram was arrested.
The case is currently ongoing and under further investigation.
