HOUSTON (February 10, 2024) Houston Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 200 Richmond Avenue at approximately 9:35 p.m. The collision resulted in the death of Deputy Rondald Bates, 62, a 31-year-old veteran of the Harris County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division, the driver of a tan Honda Accord was traveling westbound on Richmond Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle. The car left the roadway and struck a tree. Deputy Bates, the driver, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No other individuals or vehicles were involved in the incident. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
