FBI investigating New Orleans terrorist attack with activity in Houston

HOUSTON, TX – FBI Houston and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office are conducting law enforcement operations near Hugh Road and Crescent Peak Drive in north Houston. A perimeter has been secured, and authorities are urging the public to avoid the area. Specialized teams from the FBI are expected to remain on-site for several hours.

The activity is connected to this morning’s terrorist attack in New Orleans, where a man drove a truck into a crowd on Bourbon and Canal streets during New Year’s celebrations. According to the FBI, at least 15 people were pronounced deceased, and dozens more were injured in the attack, which occurred around 3:15 a.m., just hours before the Allstate Sugar Bowl at Caesars Superdome.

The FBI identified the suspected driver as Shamsud Din Jabbar, 42, of Texas, and confirmed he is not believed to have acted alone. Investigators have obtained video showing three men and a woman placing explosives in New Orleans. Authorities are actively searching for the four suspects.
