HOUSTON, TX – A Texas Southern University student has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Tyler Martinez.
The suspect, 22-year-old Mr. Robinson, appeared in Harris County Probable Cause Court overnight, where he was formally charged with first-degree felony murder. He is accused of shooting Martinez during an altercation. According to court records, Robinson admitted to participating in the shooting.
The court heard that during a fight, a woman associated with Robinson retrieved a firearm from a vehicle and handed it to him. Witnesses stated that as the physical struggle ended, Martinez appeared to have withdrawn from the conflict. Robinson then allegedly fired three shots into Martinez’s torso, resulting in his death.
Bond was set at $100,000. Conditions of release include a 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, GPS monitoring, and restrictions on weapons, drugs, and alcohol.
He was also ordered to remain in Harris County or surrounding counties should he make bond. Robinson is employed by a security company, though his role is not currently known, and is enrolled as a sophomore at Texas Southern University.
