HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A 5-year-old girl was killed and her mother was seriously injured in a wrong-way crash caused by a suspected drunk driver in the 8300 block of East Mount Houston Road around 8:30 p.m.
Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and determined that a white Nissan SUV, driven by a 20-year-old Hispanic male, was traveling eastbound when it failed to stay in a single lane, crossed into westbound traffic, and struck a gray Cadillac sedan nearly head-on.
The Cadillac was occupied by a mother and her 5-year-old daughter. The Eastex Fire Department arrived before deputies and provided emergency care to the victims.
All three were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, where the child died from her injuries while en route. The mother sustained serious bodily injuries but is expected to survive.
Investigators reported finding open containers in the Nissan and noted signs of intoxication on the driver.
