HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A woman is dead and a man is hospitalized after a barricade situation at a home in northeast Harris County ended with a fatal shooting.
Deputies from Harris County Precinct 2 District responded to a call for a possible disturbance or welfare check at a residence around 11:56 p.m.
Family members at the location allowed deputies inside, where they determined that a male suspect had barricaded himself in a bedroom with a Hispanic female. For safety, deputies evacuated the family, including children, from the home.
When deputies approached the bedroom, they received no response but heard noises inside. After additional units responded, SWAT was called to the scene.
At approximately 2:02 a.m., SWAT officers breached the barricaded room and found the woman deceased from a gunshot wound. The male suspect had also suffered a gunshot wound to the head but was still alive. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital downtown in unknown condition but is expected to survive.
Investigators believe the incident may be an attempted murder-suicide. The relationship between the suspect and the victim is believed to be boyfriend and girlfriend. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
Homicide detectives and crime scene units remain on site. Authorities stated that there had only been one prior call for a terroristic threat at the address roughly a year to a year and a half ago, though it is unclear if it involved the same individuals.
