HOUSTON, TX – Texas congressional candidate Jarvis Johnson is facing mounting public scrutiny following a series of misconduct allegations shared on social media and the resurfacing of past criminal charges. Johnson has issued a Facebook video dismissing the claims as false and attention-seeking.

Messages shared by Dr. Candice Matthews include accusations from individuals who allege misconduct by Johnson. One woman claimed that a longtime political consultant connected to Johnson’s campaign is the father of her child and does not pay child support, stating, “Jarvis Johnson is still associated with a man that does not pay child support.”

Another message described Johnson as “a dangerous man who likes to beat and abuse women” and urged a full background check. A third accused him of being “the biggest crook and shakedown artist,” alleging payments to local pastors, abuse of women, and relationships with younger men. The message concluded, “Get his ass out the community Dr. Matthews. We voted him out the last time.”

Harris County court records show two prior criminal cases involving Johnson.

In 2010, he was charged with evading arrest or detention using a vehicle, a state jail felony. The case was later disposed of after a grand jury determined there was not enough evidence to proceed, resulting in a no-bill.
A separate case from 1991 involved a charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor. That case was also later disposed of a few months later.
In a Facebook video, Johnson did not directly address the allegations but spoke about receiving support while campaigning. “I saw some B.S. about you… just trying to get some likes… just trying to get some attention,” he said. “You never want to get into a mudslinging contest with a pig… both of y’all going to get dirty, but the pig gonna like it.” He encouraged supporters to block or report negative posts and said he would remain “the man that my mother, Cleo Glenn-Johnson, raised me to be.”
The following is a public statement from Dr. Candice Matthews:

It has come to my attention that Jarvis Johnson, former State Representative and current candidate for Congressional District 29, has chosen to publicly engage in name-calling and disparaging commentary toward me in response to an anonymous intake submitted to my team regarding him.
Let me be clear for the record:
Our platform accepts community intakes as part of transparency and accountability. Each intake is clearly labeled with a disclaimer stating that the information is unverified and subject to review. This is standard, ethical practice.
What is concerning is not the intake itself—but the reaction.
Instead of addressing concerns professionally or allowing due process to take its course, Mr. Johnson chose hostility, insults, and disrespectful language. That response raises serious questions about temperament, accountability, and respect—particularly toward women who speak up, report concerns, or engage in civic oversight.
When a public figure responds to transparency with aggression rather than professionalism, the community is entitled to take note.
Let this be clear:
- No allegations were presented as fact
- No conclusions were drawn
- No verdicts were issued
Transparency is not defamation.
Accountability is not harassment.
And intimidation will not silence oversight.
The community deserves leaders who can respond to scrutiny with maturity, respect, and restraint—especially those seeking higher office.
This statement is issued for clarity, transparency, and public record purposes only.

Dr. Matthews also issued a response video, warning Johnson that if the individuals making the accusations produce evidence, she would act. “They claim they got evidence on you. And if they do have the evidence and me and my team look through that, I’ma be on your ass like a 747 freight train,” she said. “You talk… you know I pull up, what’s poppin.”
This is a developing story and more information will follow if it becomes available.
