MEMORIAL VILLAGES, TX – The Village Fire Department responded just after 9 p.m. to a fire inside a large mansion after smoke was reported in the residence, located in the 12700 block of Tall Oaks.
The homeowner reported seeing smoke and fire coming from the bathroom ceiling. Crews entered with a thermal camera and located hotspots, determining the fire was burning in a void space in the attic.
Fire officials stated the roof itself is metal with heavy wood decking beneath it, and the walls are double thickness of wood with stucco on the outside, making it difficult to access the fire. Significant manpower was required to reach the flames.
At one point, crews backed out due to structural concerns as the roof collapsed inward. Firefighters later regained control and extinguished the fire after gaining access to the attic void space.
Crews were still working at the scene after 2 a.m.
No injuries were reported to the homeowners or firefighters. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
