HOUSTON, TX – A homeowner was shot and killed during an apparent burglary at a residence in west Houston.
Houston Police Department officers were dispatched shortly after midnight to the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road and arrived around 12:20 a.m. The caller reported hearing glass breaking and what sounded like someone actively trying to enter the home. The caller then contacted their spouse to come to the residence.
Police said an altercation occurred inside the home before officers arrived, and gunfire was exchanged. Two people were shot and transported to area hospitals. A Hispanic male, approximately 60 to 65 years old, who lived at the home, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. A Black male, approximately 40 to 45 years old, identified as the suspect, was also shot and transported.
Investigators said several people were inside the residence at the time. It remains under investigation whether the home was targeted or if anything was taken. Detectives said it was a handgun. The scene was still being processed, and the investigation is ongoing.
