HOUSTON — City of Houston inspectors returned to Aqua Bella Apartments on Martin Luther King Boulevard earlier today and issued the complex several citations under the city’s new slumlord ordinance.

The enforcement action follows a visit by Dr. Matthews last week after residents contacted her about sewage backups, suspected mold, pest infestations and other maintenance problems.

During the visit, residents showed Dr. Matthews standing wastewater, damaged walls, plumbing problems and areas they described as containing mold. Families also reported rats, roaches, flies, maggots, broken windows and inconsistent hot water.
