One dead, 15 injured in shooting at large house party in southeast Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A shooting at a large house party left one person dead and 15 others injured early Sunday morning in southeast Houston.

Houston Police responded around 12:50 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 6000 block of Cherryhill Drive. Officers arrived within three minutes and reported hearing active gunfire at the scene.

Victims were located around a residence where the gathering was taking place. Officers established a triage area in the parking lot of a nearby Jack in the Box at 6060 Long Drive, where Houston Fire Department medics began treating victims.

According to police, a total of 16 individuals were shot. Three were transported from the triage scene by EMS, and others arrived at hospitals by private means. One person was pronounced deceased. Several remain in critical condition, and others are stable.

Police now describe the event as a large house party. The victims range in age from 16 to 40 years old.

Preliminary details indicate the shooting began after an uninvited guest was asked to leave and opened fire while departing. Police said individuals inside the home returned fire.

Multiple individuals were detained at the scene, but they were later questioned and released. Police confirmed the shooter is not in custody.
